In negotiations between the House and Senate, Internet filtering legislation was removed from the Labor-HHS Appropriations bill H.R. 4577. A conference of members from both chambers removed all "rider" amendments from the bill, including the controversial McCain and Istook amendments that would have forced schools to use filtering software to restrict Internet access. CDT remains concerned, however, about ongoing efforts in Congress to re-attach filtering mandates to the bill before its final passage.
