Job Opportunity: Program Associate

The Center for Democracy and Technology is seeking a Program Associate to work on health information privacy and other Internet civil liberties issues. The job offers an exciting opportunity to participate in shaping public policy on key questions of the digital age.

CDT is a non-profit public interest group, based in Washington DC, dedicated to promoting democratic values for the new digital media. CDT is one of the world's premier Internet and civil liberties advocacy organizations, working at the cutting edge of online policy issues concerning privacy and security, free expression, government surveillance and national security, digital copyright, and international ICT policy. THE POSITION: Under the direction of Vice President and the Director of the Health Privacy Project, the primary responsibilities of the Program Associate will be to:

  • Coordinate the meetings of CDT's working groups;
  • Ensure that CDT's work is circulated to policymakers, funders and the media;
  • Research digital technology policy issues;
  • Organize workshops and other events;
  • Monitor policy developments in Congress, the agencies and the Administration;
  • Otherwise assist in developing and promoting CDT's policy positions.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Program Associate is an entry-level professional position, designed for recent graduates from an undergraduate or graduate degree program. An ideal candidate would have the following characteristics:
  • Knowledge of Internet and technology and/or healthcare policy;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Exceptional research, planning and organizational skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Self-motivation and resourcefulness;
  • A commitment to CDT’s public interest mission.

COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with experience and is competitive with public interest and government pay scales. CDT provides a generous benefits package that includes health care and dental coverage, a retirement plan, paid vacation, sick days and parental leave.
