Matt, a Sophomore at Claremont McKenna College, is in Washington taking a full course load and working full-time for the Internet Education Foundation (IEF) and CDT. For IEF, he is assisting in the development of One-Click Away, a user empowerment alternative to Internet censorship, and working with the Congressional Internet Caucus and its Advisory Committee to educate Congress on Internet-related issues. For CDT, he is studying domain name policy and unsolicited commercial e-mail.
A native of Columbia, Missouri, Matt helped expand the family business to the Internet with Online Columbia, a local information site, and Columbia Online News, a print magazine about local online culture. He also managed business development for Citysbest, a national network of real estate websites, and Add Sheet Online, a local website design firm.
After moving to southern California for school, he developed a study of California initiative voting behavior at the Rose Institute of State and Local Government and co-founded claremontmckenna.com, an online resource for students and alumni. Last summer, he worked as a Business Development Specialist at IDG.net.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys dancing, exploring the city, and writing poetry. He plans to study in the U.K. next semester and later pursue a doctorate in Political Science. Eventually, he would like to work in public policy research, media, or academia.
