THE POSITION: The primary responsibilities of the Director of Communications will be to:

  • Act as lead writer across CDT's many issue areas (writing obligations will include press releases, bylined articles, blog posts and longer policy documents);
  • Take the lead in handling press inquiries and generating media interest in CDT;
  • Edit major documents, including policy statements, congressional testimony and position papers;
  • Manage writing and editing for PolicyBeta, CDT's blog;
  • Coordinate press conferences and assist in coordinating major public events.

QUALIFICATIONS: The Director of Communications is a mid-level position, intended for a motivated, highly skilled professional with 5-10 years experience in journalism or public relations. An ideal candidate would have the following characteristics:

  • Impeccable written communications skills, including artful writing and rigorous editing capabilities;
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
  • A solid working understanding of the news media;
  • Experience in technology policy and/or civil liberties;
  • Self-motivation and resourcefulness.

CDT offers substantial autonomy within a team environment.

COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with experience and is competitive with public interest and government pay scales. CDT provides a generous benefits package that includes health care and dental coverage, a retirement plan, paid vacation, sick days and parental leave.

TO APPLY please send an email explaining your interest in CDT and Internet policy, along with a resume and your three best writing samples, to dani@cdt.org.
