Creating a P3P Policy for a Web page that only collects :

  • click stream information
  • the url of the previous page
  • browser type, which can include operating system
(This assumes that you are not sharing the clickstream information, storing it indefintely, and that consumers who have questions can contact your customer service office.)

Instructions:

  1. Copy information from this page to your computer.

  2. Replace information between XXX and XXX. There are seven pieces of information to enter:

    1. The URL of your human readable privacy policy (line 1)
    2. Contact information (lines 6-10) (5 fields)
    3. The URL of your human readable customer service information (line 19)

  3. Save this file as policy1.xml in the root of your web directory

  4. Copy information from this page to your computer.

  5. Replace information on line 6 with your company's domain name of the server.

  6. Save this file as p3p.xml in the root of your web directory.

  7. Upload these two files to your server.

  8. Validate these files at this URL: http://big.w3.org/cgi-bin/validate.pl. Fill in the first blank, labeled URI, and press the check button.
