 August 7, 2002 Public Interest Groups Call Upon FCC to Consider Consumer Impact in Broadcast Flag Rulemaking
AUGUST 7, 2002 - Three public interest groups jointly called upon the Federal Communications Commission today to consider the possible consumer impacts of adopting a "broadcast flag" standard designed to limit the ability to make copies of digital-broadcast television programs. The Commission is expected to announce a notice of proposed rule making about the copy protection standard tomorrow.
 July 11, 2002 Privacy Groups Demand Protection of Users' Anonymity Online
NEW YORK-A coalition of civil liberties and privacy groups today called on Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other online companies to adopt policies protecting their users' right to anonymous speech on the Internet. That right has come under attack in recent years through a growing number of "cyberSLAPP" lawsuits, in which companies file suit just to discover the identity of their online critics - often in order to silence or intimidate them.
 June 28, 2002 ICANN Reform Plan Falls Short
JUNE 28, 2002 - Today, as expected, the Directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved its Blueprint for Reform without amendment in Bucharest, Romania. While an improvement on earlier drafts, the current blueprint fails in a number of key areas and is unlikely to promote broader trust in ICANN.
