E-Government Act of 2001 (Lieberman)Federal government agencies would be required to: make information more accessible and useable; provide better privacy notice on the Web; and create "privacy impact assessments" for new information collections. A federal Chief Information Officer would be created within the Office of Management and Budget. An Interagency Information Technology Fund would be created and IT workforce issues would be given priority. 5/1/01: Introduced and referred to the Committee on Governmental Affairs. 7/11/01: Committee hearing held. 3/21/02: Marked-up and ordered reported by the full Senate Government Affairs Committee. 6/27/02 Passed by Senate and sent to the House. Note: Major provisions of S. 803 were incorporated into H.R. 2458, which is the bill that ended up being passed by both Houses of Congress.

(McCain/Leahy)Declares that the reports of the Congressional Research Service (CRS) should be made publicly available via the Internet, and instructs the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Congress to make them so. Also publicizes lobbyist disclosure reports and gift disclosure reports filed in the Senate and calls for a GAO (Government Accounting Office) exploring the cost of making these web-accessible.2/14/01: Introduced and referred to Committee on Rules and Administration.
