No single law defines what goes on on the Internet. Online activities and speech that are socially acceptable and legally protected in one locale may not be in another, and each country's rules and norms are globally unique. Governments around the world are struggling to adopt national speech traditions and legal frameworks to a rapidly changing technological environment. However, unilateral action by any single country could threaten the Internet's vitality and freedom as whole. CDT works through a variety of fora to ensure the Internet and other communications platforms continue to expand the space for expression online, regardless of frontiers.
