International

A global communications medium like no other, the Internet can be a powerful tool for individuals and societies. It is proving central to the promotion of democracy, political participation and civic involvement, education and the sharing of knowledge and ideas, self-empowerment, as well as commerce and economic development.

However, the seamless nature of Internet communications often defies traditional territorial boundaries, along with laws and policies premised on these boundaries. As users all over the world come online, governments and international bodies are increasingly seeking to regulate the medium, often with conflicting results. CDT works through a variety of international fora to ensure the Internet and other communications platforms continue to expand the space for innovation and expression in a way that protects privacy for all users, regardless of frontiers.
