Senate Committee Revises Data Security Legislation - The Senate Commerce Committee yesterday became the first congressional panel to take up data security legislation since the start of the new Congress in January. Data security legislation stalled last year after active consideration by multiple committees in both the House and Senate. The new Commerce Committee bill includes some improvements over the bill the panel passed in 2005, but CDT still has concerns about its breach notification provisions. Other committees may consider their own versions of data security legislation; the Senate Judiciary Committee could do so as soon as next week. April 26, 2007
