Cablevision Appeal Addresses Concerns with DVR Ruling - Cablevision announced today that it is appealing a March 22 federal court decision barring the deployment of digital video recorder (DVR) functionality that stores recorded TV programs on a remote server. That decision, if applied broadly, could chill innovation by increasing copyright liability risks for a wide range of Internet-based products. The appeal offers an opportunity to reconsider the lower court's approach, which in CDT's view seemed to attach undue legal significance to a product's technical architecture. April 10, 2007
