CDT Recommends Steady Increase in FTC Funding - The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) plays a critical role in protecting consumers against Internet crimes and must be adequately funded, CDT Deputy Director Ari Schwartz said today. Testifying before the Appropriations Committee's Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee, Schwartz illustrated how the FTC has emerged as the lead government agency in the fight against spyware, online fraud and identity theft. As those threats increase, Congress should consider bolstering the FTC's available resources to meet the growing challenge, Schwartz said. February 28, 2007
