Data Retention Plan Lacks Privacy Safeguards; Could be Costly - The Justice Department's mounting effort to persuade or compel ISPs and other communications companies to keep detailed information on their customers' habits has triggered concerns throughout the privacy community. In a detailed memo issued today, CDT highlighted questions about the cost, impact on privacy and effectiveness of such mandates.
