PATRIOT Reauthorization Debate Reaches Critical Stage - Congressional staff began to meet in earnest this week to hammer out the details of a final PATRIOT Act reauthorization bill. CDT and other civil liberties groups wrote to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter to thank him for his efforts in producing the Senate version of the bill, which contains meaningful reforms, and to make clear that CDT and the other groups would not support a final bill that failed to include the Senate bill's version of Section 215, the FISA business records provision.
