Freedom of Information Measure Clears Senate Committee - The Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday approved legislation introduced by Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) that would require future legislation to explicitly state when it is creating a new FOIA exemption. The modest bill responds to the confusion caused by the growing Congressional practice of excluding categories of records from FOIA coverage by ambiguous provisions slipped into legislation unrelated to FOIA. The bill now moves to the full Senate. June 10, 2005
