Legislation introduced to clarify creation of FOIA exemptions - Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) today introduced legislation to emphasize an important provision of their OPEN Government Act. The new standalone bill would require all future legislation that creates a new FOIA exemption to explicitly state within the text of the bill that an exemption is being established to cut down on the confusion that has resulted from vague drafting in the past.
