CDT Urges Federal Election Commission to Protect Individuals' Political Speech on the Internet - In two sets of comments filed today with the Federal Election Commission, CDT urged the FEC to declare that the online political speech of bloggers and other ordinary citizens is exempt from the burdens of campaign finance laws. CDT submitted its own detailed comments on the FEC proposals. In addition, working with the Institute for Politics, Democracy & the Internet (IPDI) of George Washington University, CDT submitted a Statement of Principles on behalf of 1,115 leading organizations, blogs, and individuals. The Principles set out guidelines that the FEC and Congress should follow in applying campaign finance laws to individuals. June 03, 2005
