Domain Name Group to Elect Board Members - Beginning October 11th, the Domain Name Supporting Organization (DNSO) of ICANN, the domain name policy group, will hold a complex elections process for three coveted seats on the ICANN Board of Directors. Candidates have been nominated by the members of the General Assembly and will be chosen through consecutive rounds of elimination. To be elected, a candidate will need a broad base of support among the DNSO constituencies -- ccTLD registries, businesses, gTLD registries, ISPs and connectivity providers, non-commercial domain name holders, registrars, and intellectual property interests -- that often hold disparate opinions. There is also a geographical diversity requirement that the voters must consider. As a member of the Non-Commercial Domain Names Holder Constituency (NCDNHC), CDT has expressed support for two candidates that have demonstrated a willingness to represent the interests of all Internet users -- Rick White and Peter Dengate Thrush.
