United States Government Grants Extension To ICANN - The United States Department of Commerce has agreed to extend its Memorandum of Understanding with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) for another year. The Memorandum defines not only the assurances that ICANN must offer in order to prove its capability at managing the domain name system, but also the United States' agreement that ICANN administer the system for the time being. Initially the agreements were set to expire on September 30, 2000; the extension gives ICANN time to complete its requirements. September 06, 2000
