.us Redelegation Takes Effect - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has taken formal action to make Neustar, the company recently selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the definitive registry for all Internet addresses ending in .us. From this point forward, all names in .us will be resolved by Neustar's systems, and Neustar will have authority to make upgrades and changes to the .us domain. In response to the Department of Commerce's need for fast action, ICANN did not apply its normal process in the redelegation. A recent announcement by ICANN justified the exception as an "emergency redelegation" but promised that ICANN would publish a full report and would complete necessary contractual arrangements as soon as possible.
