ICDT Policy Post 8.04CANN President Proposes Radical Restructuring Plan - The President of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), M. Stuart Lynn, has published a statement calling for a radical reconception of ICANN, the organization that manages naming and addressing online. Among other things, the statement calls for a much-increased level of government involvement in ICANN, including having national governments appoint five members of a reconceived fifteen-member Board of Trustees. CDT has early reservations about the plan, particularly its failure to make strong commitments to an open, transparent ICANN, and its lack of oversight to keep ICANN to an appropriately narrow technical mission.
