Senator Requests ICANN Oversight Hearings - Senator Conrad Burns, an influential member of the Senate Commerce Committee, has written a letter to committee Chairman Ernest Hollings requesting that the Committee schedule oversight hearings focused on the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). ICANN, the controversial organization that manages Internet naming and addressing, is currently holding its quarterly meeting in Accra, Ghana. Recently, ICANN's President and CEO, Stuart Lynn, proposed a radical restructuring plan for the organization that has galvanized the community and spurred a reevaluation of ICANN's mission and procedures.
