E-Government Bill Passes Committee - The E-Government Act (S.803) introduced by Senators Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) and Conrad Burns (R-MT) was passed unanimously by the full Senate Governmental Affairs Committee on March 21. The bill has undergone revisions following extensive negotiations among the sponsors, the Committee and the Bush Administration. Certain controversial provisions, such as the creation of an appointed Federal Chief Information Officer, were dropped or revised, but the sections on access to government information and privacy that CDT has supported remain in the bill.
