House Committee Approves .kids.us - The House Committee on Energy and Commerce on April 10 approved a measure calling for the creation of a child-friendly Internet domain within the United States' country-code domain. The new domain, .kids.us, would be restricted to content "suitable for minors" (defined as content suitable for children below the age of thirteen), would prohibit linking to resources outside ".kids.us", and would require approval for the hosting of services like chat rooms or instant messaging. CDT has reservations about Internet content restriction in all its forms. In 2000, the Congressionally-appointed Commission on Online Child Protection rejected the idea that a child-specific Top-Level Domain would adequately protect children. April 11, 2002
