Court Upholds Free Speech Rights in Yahoo! Case - A California court has upheld free expression rights in a case with global implications for speech on the Internet. Yahoo! had asked the California court for relief from a restrictive French court order that would have limited Yahoo!'s ability to publish on the global Internet. The French court had ordered Yahoo! to limit the display of Nazi memorabilia and images on Yahoo!-hosted sites in the U.S.--displays which are illegal in France, but are protected by the First Amendment in America. The California court's judgment affirms Yahoo!'s right to publish online, and sets an important precedent for online speech worldwide and the openness of the Internet. November 08, 2001
