International Agreement on Encryption Export Controls Leaves Some Details Unclear - Representatives from 33 nations met on December 2nd-3rd to reach an accord on exports of military and dual-use goods under the Wassenaar Arrangement. The U.S. government believes that the elimination of an exemption for mass-market encryption products will "level the playing field" for the U.S. by tightening export controls worldwide, but experts remain skeptical as to the long-term effects of these revisions.
