CDT Urges FCC to Protect Internet In Defining DTV Broadcast Flag - In comments on the FCC's proposed rulemaking on Digital Broadcast Content Protection, CDT urged the Commission to include reasonable uses of the Internet to exchange content, balancing the interests of users with the intellectual property rights of content creators. In particular, CDT called on the FCC to adopt objective functional criteria for approving copy protection technologies and to develop a transparent and publicly accountable process for applying those criteria, based on the narrow goal of preventing indiscriminate redistribution of copyrighted content. CDT also urged that the Commission make clear that the rulemaking is not a precedent for the FCC to take a broader role in the regulation of consumer technologies. February 16, 2004
