State Department Fails to Provide Privacy Impact Assessments - CDT urged the State Department to comply with the Freedom of Information Act and the E-Government Act of 2002 and release "privacy impact assessments" (PIAs) on the electronic passport and the proposed PASS card program. In a letter this week to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, CDT reported submitting a FOIA request for the documents in December 2006. After receiving initial word that a State Department official that the request was being processed, further attempts to follow up have failed. CDT urged the department to produce the required PIAs as soon as possible and to post all future PIAs to its public Web site. May 04, 2007
