ICANN Candidate Information Page ![]()
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is about to hold its first online global election. Through ICANN's At-Large Membership, the Internet public will, for the first time, have a direct role in filling a seat at the table where important decisions about the Internet's technical functions will be made. Voters from around the world will participate, and in the end, five new members of the ICANN Board of Directors will be chosen.
This election introduces not only a new kind of voting, but also new forms of campaigning and voter education. Internet users will need to learn about their choices in a fully online environment. To help you learn about the men and women running in this election, CDT, along with its partners Common Cause and the Bertelsmann Foundation, offers this resource of candidate information.
The election will begin on October 1 and will run through the 10th, and will take place completely online. The men and women on the ballot come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences: businesspeople, academics, user advocates, technical experts, and more. To help you learn about the candidates and find the one that best represents you, we distributed a questionnaire to all the candidates, asking for their positions on several important issues facing ICANN.
The questionnaires were emailed to the candidates on Monday, September 18. Responses have been tabulated and posted as they've been received. You can review the candidates' positions by clicking on the links below. NOTE: Many of the candidates for this election are working under very tight schedules, and will need time to prepare their responses to our questionnaire. Responses are posted here as they are received.
