The Encryption Protects the Rights of Individuals from Violation and Abuse in CYberspace Act: Introduced May 12, 1998 by Sen. Ashcroft (R-MO) and Sen. Leahy (D-VT).
* Protects the domestic use of strong encryption without "key recovery" back doors for government eavesdropping;
* Eases export controls to allow export of strong encryption products overseas;
* Strengthens protections from government access to decryption keys; and
* Creates new privacy protections for data stored in networks and cell phone location information.
